A gift… with an ulterior motive?
Apr 6th, 2007 by Chris
I got a cool gift from a great coffee shop last year in East Asia. One of those Russian doll inside a doll inside a doll inside a doll thingies, better known as Babushka or Matryoshka dolls. Or, to be more specific than you’d ever really need to know, матрёшка dolls.
I visited the coffee shop many times to get some work or reading done, and they were always very nice there. Especially the owner, and her daughter who served the coffee on the second floor. I received a few ‘going away’ gifts the last time I visited the shop before leaving, and in fact at one point they figured I was coughing too much and the owner sent her daughter out to buy some medicine for me.
Now the thing is, some other people on my team would also regularily visit, and they never got any gifts. Which got me to thinking, they aren’t just being nice because the white foreigner was coming in, otherwise my friends would have gotten the same treatment… Was she trying to get her daughter married off? To a nice life in Canada? Possibly… at least I’d like to think so
I just recently received an email from the daughter, I’m going to have to spend some time translating and see what its all about.

Very interesting….do keep us informed
hhahahahha they saw you as a mack daddy!!!!
